Bonus Academy

Bonus Academy is one of Kuwait's leading online education platforms. In 2025, I worked on redesigning the student experience while preserving the product's core functionality. The goal wasn't to rebuild the platform from scratch, but to modernize it into an experience that felt intuitive, engaging and aligned with how students use digital products today.

I redesigned the complete mobile application, introduced a new visual language, improved learning flows and created an experience that encourages students to return, stay consistent and enjoy learning.

Bonus Academy 2.0 redesign

THE CHALLENGE

Great courses. Outdated experience.

Bonus Academy already offered quality educational content, but the product experience hadn't evolved alongside modern mobile applications. The interface felt dated, visually heavy and lacked the polish students now expect from products they use every day.

Students spend hours on platforms like YouTube, Instagram and TikTok, where interactions feel effortless and engaging. Opening Bonus Academy created a completely different impression, making learning feel more like a task than something students wanted to return to.

The challenge wasn't changing what students learned.

It was changing how learning felt.

Reimagining the learning experience

My Approach

Designing for longer learning sessions.

One of the first design decisions was moving the experience to a dark interface. Since students often spend extended periods watching video lessons, reading eBooks and revising material, the darker visual environment creates a more comfortable viewing experience while allowing accent colours to highlight important actions throughout the product.

The redesign wasn't simply about changing colours. Every screen was rebuilt with better spacing, stronger hierarchy and clearer interactions to create a more immersive learning experience.

MOTIVATING LEARNING

Small habits create consistent learning.

Small habits create consistent learning.

Learning isn't only about accessing content. It's about building consistency over time.

To encourage students to return regularly, I introduced learning streaks that reward continuous progress. Rather than relying only on notifications, the experience celebrates consistency and gives students a simple visual reminder of their learning journey.

This subtle layer of gamification helps transform studying from an occasional activity into an ongoing habit.

COURSE EXPERIENCE

Course detail pages became one of the biggest focus areas during the redesign. Instead of presenting information in a purely functional way, the layout was redesigned to better communicate value, highlight instructors and make purchasing decisions feel more natural.

Course previews, structured lesson lists, instructor information and supporting resources were organized to build confidence before purchase while making navigation clearer after enrolment.

The result is an experience that supports students before, during and after they begin learning.

COMPLETE LEARNING ECOSYSTEM

Beyond video courses.

Beyond video courses.

Bonus Academy offers more than online classes. Students can also purchase eBooks, search across learning materials, explore instructor profiles and manage their own learning space.

Rather than treating these as separate products, the redesign unified every feature under a consistent visual language. Navigation, interactions and layouts remain familiar across the entire application, helping students focus on learning instead of figuring out the interface.

One connected learning experience

REFLECTION

What I took away.

Redesigning Bonus Academy reinforced that great educational products aren't only defined by the quality of their content. The experience surrounding that content plays an equally important role in keeping students engaged.

By modernizing the interface, introducing thoughtful interactions and adding motivational elements like learning streaks, the redesign shifted the product from simply delivering courses to encouraging continuous learning.

The biggest lesson was that good design doesn't teach students. It motivates them to keep learning.
